The Village of Libertyville is located in south central Lake County, approximately 37 miles from Chicago and seven miles west of Lake Michigan. The Village is an established residential community and has traditionally served as a major market and service center for central Lake County. Picture-perfect historic Libertyville offers hours of boutique shopping, dining and recreation. A straight shot 45 minutes north of downtown Chicago, Libertyville has all the makings for a memorable day trip or a place to call home.
Turn-of-the-century, restored buildings line Libertyville’s vibrant Main Street (State-21). Home decor shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, culinary specialty stores, bakeries and confectioneries fill the quaint blocks of its downtown area. 1879 Victorian-Era Ansel B. Cook Mansion anchors downtown Cook Park, the site of Lake County’s oldest seasonal farmers market.
Just north of downtown Libertyville on IL Rt 137, Independence Grove recreation park preserves the natural woodlands, wetlands and prairie landscape that Potawatomi tribes lived in years ago. Today, visitors can enjoy the 115-acre Lake County Forest Preserve’s paved trails and lake with swimming beach and fishing piers (boat, kayak and bike rentals are available).
